1. Tell me about your personal journey with yoga. Why is it important to you?
They say you never really find yoga… yoga finds you. And it did indeed find me in 2002, when my head needed to be screwed back on straight. A consistent practice of Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Astanga, etc. helped me way more than years of therapy and medication ever could. Yoga guided me through a painful divorce as well as newfound love and subsequent marriage. Yoga gives me the tools to guide me through obstacles of every day life. Yoga has taught me how to live with purpose and heal myself from within. For me, yoga IS life.
2. When did you first begin teaching yoga? What made you transition into a leadership position?
I completed my RYT 200 exactly a year ago and started teaching community classes at Mantra Yoga & Juice last June and subbed level 1 classes as often as I could over the summer. By September, I had two classes on the schedule, a level 1 and a level 1.5. In February, I began teaching two level 2 classes at Tri-City Wellness Center. Transitioning to a leadership position came quite naturally for me. I know firsthand how healing yoga is and after 16+ years of a dedicated practice, I knew it was time to share this magic with others.
3. What makes your classes unique?
My classes are balanced and fun. I like to flow my sequences breath to movement, in a mindful manner. I also am a firm believer of having fun while practicing and by not taking myself too seriously. My music has been described as “unconventional.”
4. How does music benefit your guidance in a yoga class?
Music in powerful. I’m not a “hippy-dippy” yogi in the sense of playing what one would consider to be “traditional” yoga music. My playlists range anywhere from 80’s hairbands to 90’s grunge to EDM and everything in between. My exception is country and rap… you will NEVER find those genres in my playlists! My wide range of music is what makes my classes truly unique. My Tuesday night students love how I play “non-yoga” music.
5. Tell me about your next event and where we can follow you online.
