5 question interview with @creatiffyoga of San Diego International Yoga Day
1.) Tell me about your personal journey with yoga. Why is it important to you?
I began practicing yoga out of curiosity with hopes that it would help me deal with stress and inner mental turmoil. Little did I know that it would be my saving grace. It transformed by body physically, the teachers messages helped me to reprogram my mind to serve me rather than hurt me, and I started to get in touch with my spirit which opened up a whole new dimension of living for me where I was completely connected to myself and the entire universe that surrounded me.
Yoga is very important to me as it gave me the tools to move and live freely on and off the mat and brought a deeper meaning to my life. Getting in touch with both my physical and energetic body allowed me to explore aspects of life I didn’t even know existed and now I feel connected to everyone and everything on a daily basis, and that is what Yoga is all about. The union of mind, body, spirit, earth. Living from this space allows compassion and joy to flow effortlessly in my life, and yields manifestation of my dreams.
2.) When did you first begin teaching yoga? What made you transition into a leadership position?
I started teaching yoga in May of 2013 after completing my 200hr training at CorePower Yoga. I am certified and trained in Power, Hot, Vinyasa, Yin, and Prenatal styles with over 2,000 hours of live teaching.
My transition into the leadership role came from passionately wanting to share the beautiful gift of yoga with everyone in the world to help fuel the same personal growth and empowerment that it brought me! I truly believe that yoga will be what heals and unites the world and being able to play a part in that to help spread the movement confirms my mission on earth and makes my heart sparkle!
3.) What makes your classes unique?
I teach from a very authentic place where my creativity flows freely to provide unique, inspiring experiences in each class. I am a graphic designer as well, and so for me each class is a masterpiece of creation that i orchestrate from the flow, music, and language all inspired by a soul-rocking theme! I’ve created unique classes that I share in special events such as the Chakra Paint Flow, Tree Yoga, Mermaid Yoga and Couples PLAY that all have their fun take on doing yoga and meditation in a very PLAYful way. My classes are never serious, always PLAYful and light to leave students floating in the high vibrations that they create within themselves on the mat.
4.) How does music benefit your guidance in a yoga class?
Music is a very important piece of the puzzle to creating a powerful class. It sets the tone for the theme of the class and supports it in a way that allows students to connect vibrationally as they move through physically. I typically choose music that is less lyric based to allow for the meditative state to excel rather that being distracted by a lot of words. I love it when the music perfectly syncs up with the movement of the flow and the whole room becomes aligned!
5.) Tell me about your next event and where we can follow you online.
I’ll be hosting the 2nd Annual International Yoga Day Festival on Saturday, June 18th @ Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station in Point Loma. This event was inspired by my trip to India last year were I attended their International Yoga Festival and Swamiji announced his participation in helping to declare an International Yoga Day on the world calendar. He stated “It’s my hopes that it will be celebrated all the way from here to California.” When he said that I felt as though he was talking right to me, and I decided to make it my mission to be sure it was celebrating in San Diego. And now we are continuing last years powerful energy this year at our 2nd Annual Festival.
I’ll be guiding the opening “Soul Emergence” Yoga Flow at 10am to the music of DTO and also leading my one-of-a-kind Chakra Paint Flow at 3pm that is a fun mix of art, yoga, and meditation!
The day will be full of PLAY: Peace, Love, Art, Yoga + Music and lots of fun! Your Soul Wants To Play, set it free on International Yoga Day!
