I am excited to collaborate with Sheri for the upcoming event, Sweatwork Saturday. We will be co-creating a musical and yogic journey Saturday, April 9 from 1:30-3:30 at Orange Theory Fitness in Point Loma. I had a chance to ask her a few questions about her journey with yoga, fitness, and why she thinks music is important for creating and maintaining space.
1.) Tell me about your personal journey with yoga and fitness. Why is it important to you?
I fell in love with movement at a young age. My mom signed me up for dance class at 4 years old and I never stopped moving. Whether it be yoga, group fitness classes, hiking or impromptu dance parties with my 2-year old, I just love to feel my heartbeat and sweat. Beyond the fun of it, yoga and fitness has always helped with any stress in my life. It helps me slow down and drown out what is not important. At the end of a class or run, I always feel more connected to my body and how amazing life is.
2.) When did you first begin planning events?
I have always been a party planner; I love getting people together. I started these special events for Miracles on the Mat and The Sweatwork at the beginning of this year. I am excited to see what happens.
3.) What makes your events unique?
The mantra for these events is: Sweat, Connect & Serve
The vision behind these events is threefold: #1: Put a spotlight gifted people in our community who are helping others through fitness & wellness everyday. #2: Tap into the power of fitness/movement to connect people to each other. #3: Give back to local non-profits who focus on providing wellness services to under-served communities.
4.) How does music benefit your personal yoga practice?
Music is a game-changer for my yoga & fitness practice and my life. Music places me deeper into the experience. When the class is sequenced well, the teacher is connected and the music is crafted to the moment…my mind quiets.
5.) Tell me about your next event and where we can follow you online.
