DTO and Hemalayaa Interviewed Live by CBS 8/CW6 San Diego’s Ashley Jacobs During Glowing Turn It Up! Transformational Yoga Movement Experience
Festival style “glowing yoga” or “glowga” by yoga music rock star Dave Kemp aka DTO of Buddha Music Group — along with transformational yoga coach Hemalayaa – was featured the morning of July 11 live by San Diego’s No. 1 lifestyles and entertainment reporter CBS 8/The CW 6’s Ashley Jacobs for four morning news segments on location at Encinitas yoga studio Soul of Yoga.
”Take every single thing you know about yoga and forget it,” says Jacobs live on air. “A local musician and yoga instructor have transformed the (yoga) experience (with) black lights, live music, a little face paint and this is unlike anything we’ve ever seen.” See July 11 CBS 8/The CW 6 San Diego’s live report with lifestyles reporter Ashley Jacobs Glowga: It’s a new twist on yoga, Glowga: New twist on yoga leaves people glowing and Ashley’s fun, flowing and glowing Facebook live post.

Based in San Diego, DTO delivers live yoga music to classes, workshops, festivals, weddings and other events. The multi-talented DTO is also a certified yoga instructor, a world language teacher, a humanitarian, a musician, a composer and now music producer of the very first 60-minute album (Nameless Energy) created specifically for an entire yoga sequence.
“This is really new,” says Jacobs over DTO’s Nameless Energy soundtrack as well as about 20 or so noise yoginis. “We try to show you new things and this is a new class in Encinitas (in north San Diego county).”
“When you leave a typical yoga class, you probably feel relaxed, but when you leave (DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Yoga Movement Experience), you are going to feel energized and happy,” explains Jacobs.
“Typically, you would have to go to a yoga festival to experience something like this, but people can get it right here in Encinitas at Soul of Yoga,” explains Jacobs live while interviewing Soul of Yoga visionary Ryan Stanley.
“That’s right,” continues Stanley. “Bhakti Fest will be in September at Joshua Tree and hundreds of people will be at an event like this, but we are featuring (DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Black Light Edition) as a pre-party for Bhakti Fest.”
“This is really unique and clearly loved,” responds Jacobs while a room full of yoginis painted neon just inches away from the camera let loose a primal scream as the room bumps with DTO’s rocking Love Warrior soundtrack from his Nameless Energy album.
“People say they leave and had so much fun, so much joy and they are calm and present,” says Stanley. “(DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Yoga Movement Experience) is a great alternative to a night out.”
“You know how you feel when you’re driving in the car and your favorite song comes on the radio and you just get excited?” muses Jacobs live on air. “Well,” she says, “that’s the kind of the energy we are bringing thanks to DTO.”
“What kind of feedback do you get from people after (the DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Yoga Movement Experience)?” asks Ashley to DTO live on CBS 8 San Diego in the morning.
“Most people are just blown away by the energy they feel within themselves as well as how they can take it out to the community,” says DTO, who sports circular tribal symbols in neon white above his brow plus a glowing flower hidden under his white shirt.
“Yoga connects mind, body and spirit,” says DTO, “and it brings flexibility, balance and strength.”
“What is it about the music factor that just revs everything up?” asks Ashley of DTO, who has his guitar wrapped around him while his own Nameless Energy soundtrack bumps the room, neon lights bounce and colorful yoginis dance and vocalize around him.
“As you can witness, the sound vibrations make people move, make people groove and really step into their greatness,” explains DTO, “and (allows them) to step into their greatness (and) be whomever they want to be in this world.”
“That’s how we activate people with our program, (DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Yoga Movement Experience),” says DTO.
“And you know who else is getting us to move is our fabulous instructor, Hemalayaa,” says Jacobs, who introduces the beaming international transformational yoga coach. “You have gotten everybody to just come out of their shell and come alive,” says Jacobs.
“Absolutely,” responds Hemalayaa, who sports a blindingly white two-piece yoga ensemble by DTLA designer donna B (website). “This is what it’s about. We are here to be fully liberated, open in ourselves, joyful and happy. We can have that.”
Why should everyone at some stop caring so much about what they look like and what people think of them? Asks Jacobs, who earlier on live TV described the crowd at Soul of Yoga as “kind,” “wonderful,” and “the nicest people I have ever met.”
“Just let loose. Simply, it holds us back from true connection with our families, with our each other, with our loves ones So, this opens us up. I feel connected. Do you feel connected?” asks Hemalayaa of Jacobs in front of millions of CBS 8 San Diego viewers.
“I do,” responds Jacobs.
What is Turn It Up!, Glowing Yoga and GLOWga?
July 11’s DTO + Hemalayaa Turn It Up! Yoga Movement Experience, “glowing yoga” or “GLOWga” class, which was viewed by millions of San Diegans live on the CBS8 and The CW 6 San Diego morning new, was led by internationally-renowned yoga/dance teacher and facilitator of transformation Hemalayaa, who has been featured on Ellen, The Today Show, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Yoga Journal and Shape, among others.
“This type of liberating yoga-meets-dance practice brings a shared freedom that delivers more joy, bliss, relaxation and authenticity,” says Hemalayaa, who has founded an EMBODY workshop for women to launch Sept. 30 at Wanderlust Hollywood.
“Being on CBS TV live confirms that the world is ready for weird to be the new normal,” says Hemalayaa.
What is transformational yoga and why does Hemalayaa call herself a transformational yoga coach? Hemalayaa says, in the spiritual (as well as the physical, emotional, mental and energetic) realms, release is just as or perhaps even more important than surrendering, accepting or even gratitude.
“It is incredibly important to release old stories, patterns and stagnant energy out of the body and mind,” says Hemalayaa, “Through releasing, we to live freely, joyously and authentically.”
Not only a master yoga instructor also incorporates dance into her workshops and classes. “Through dance we rejuvenate and nourish our bodies, enhancing our well-being,” says Hemalayaa.
The added “fun element,” says Hemalayaa is the black lights, which makes clothing, face paints, signs and symbols glow in yoga studios such as Soul of Yoga in Encinitas or at conscious festivals like Shakti Fest, Bhati Fest and Lightning in a Bottle.
“The black lights to make us glow and reminds us of our inner light that glows even without any darkness,” explains Hemalayaa “Plus, during Turn it Up!, we are in a state of play and that creates relaxation and a stress free life. Any time you can be silly, playful like a child, is a good time,” says Hemalayaa.
“You don’t need to attend a conscious festival to get glowing yoga and dance movement combined with DTO’s vibration-raising tunes,” says Soul of Yoga’s owner Ryan Stanley.

Who is DTO and What is Nameless Energy?
Dave Kemp aka DTO of Buddha Music Group is a multi-talented musician, performer and instructor who delivers live yoga music to classes, workshops, festivals, weddings and other events. DTO is also a certified yoga instructor, a world language teacher, a humanitarian, a musician, a composer and now music producer of the very first 60-minute album (Nameless Energy) created specifically for an entire yoga sequence.
DTO, who was raised in Iowa, discovered yoga after moving to California. For five years, DTO played live music at Southern California yoga studios as well as conscious festivals and events. This experience with yoga, movement and music led him to the idea to craft an hour-long album for yoga studios, teachers and students.
Recommended by Deepak Chopra, Nameless Energy is a sensual-meets-Sanskrit hybrid of multi-instrument acoustics, electronic sounds, mantras and uplifting lyrics to inspire any yoga experience into a vibration-raising awakening for the soul.
For Nameless Energy’s 15 soul-lifting tracks, DTO collaborated with some of San Diego’s brightest “conscious music” stars such as Buddha Music Group’s Kiyoshi as well as Krista Richards, Aja Lee, Tara Devi, Jamie Shadowlight, Christy Rose and Zoe Sol.
While performing music live during a yoga class, wedding or workshop, DTO brings his many years as a musician, composer, teacher and yoga instructor plus his full 88-key digital keyboard, a harmonium and his own sophisticated sound system.
“My first experience in a yoga-plus-live music experience was so profound that it awakened me to my life’s purpose and I want this blissful feeling for everyone,” says DTO, who wears his guitar on his back on a custom-made vinyl holster and hemp strap.
“There is nothing more awakening than having live music during yoga and working with DTO is a mystical treat,” says Hemalayaa, who partners with DTO frequently for the duo’s Turn It Up! ecstatic movement experience events. “DTO’s music inspires a deep connection to self as well as connection with community,” she says.
In addition to his musical and teaching talents, Kemp is also the visionary behind Plant Powered Living (www.PlantPoweredLiving.com) and Plant Powered Kids (@PlantPoweredKids), which encourages families to cook and serve healthy vegetarian-based meals through music and movement classes, workshops and other programs such as kid-friendly farmer’s market walking tours and cooking demonstrations. Ten percent of all Nameless Energy proceeds is donated to Plant Powered Kids programming.
