1.) Tell me about your personal journey with yoga. Why is it important to you?
Yoga became one of the 1st solid foundational practices in my life. My journey began on my mat with the asanas where I learned the power that comes from commitment, discipline and daily practice. This learning quickly evolved into “living the yoga” which for me means to live in the beauty, joy, and flow of life everyday. Yoga woke me up to the gift of truly living and embrace all that life has to offer.
2.) When did you first begin teaching yoga? What made you transition into a leadership position?
I began teaching yoga with patients receiving mental health care 10 years ago. Sharing the skills I had learned in my own practice with patients is where my passion for teaching and sharing the gift of yoga with others ignited. Everyday I would witness how simple practices such as learning to breathe gave those I worked with a powerful skill that helped the navigate life in more effective ways. This inspired me to go deeper into the teachings of yoga and develop my own skills through multiple yoga teacher trainings in California and India. As I continue to dive deeply into my own practices of living yoga and open to receive the joy of life, I want to share my experiences and learning with others. I believe when one is truly happy all you want is to support others in their own happiness and joy.
3.) What makes your classes unique?
My passion for community and using the collective power that is present in a class to elevate everyone. Currently I teach yoga sculpt most often. Often in yoga classes the focus is on the self. In classes I lead, we begin there yet build on that. Once your know how to connect to yourself, your able to connect more deeply to others, and when we do this we are able to create a powerful force, a force which I truly believe has the ability to improve this world.
Over the years I have learned so much about harnessing the power that comes from coming together in community. The energy that comes from people working together as a system is one of the most powerful aspects of being human. This knowledge has lead to a deep calling for creating large scale wellness events where we can come together as a Tribe and own this collective power.
Currently much of my energy is focused on bringing Daybreaker to San Diego. Which is early morning sober wellness events that are spreading across the globe. Their vision is raising the love vibration through music, dance and community and they have events with up to 1200 people. Currently we are collecting 1000 emails to launch in San Diego. We need another 263, so if you have read this far please go to daybreaker.com and add your email.
4.) How does music benefit your guidance in a yoga class?
Music, music, music is one of the key elements of classes I lead. Music is vibration and connects us in profound ways. I use the vibration of the music to connect the class and connect it with movement and flow.
When are moving into a very exciting time in the yoga world. A time where are combining the art of music, dance, yoga and community. Through collaborations with artist and DJs we are creating exciting yogic experiences that entice all the senses, nourish our deep need to feel connected all while staying conscious of our health and wellness.
