The founders of La Vie Boheme, Michaela Moryskova and Yvette Charlton, are helping yogis and yoginis everywhere express their inner light on their mat.
I have performed my music for several yoga events they offer on their beautiful mats. I recently had the opportunity to ask them a few questions. Here’s what they had to say about their mats.
About the materials:
Our yoga mats are made of PVC, heavy metal free and latex free. They are extra long and wide for a more comfortable practice during inversions and back bends. All our mats are uniquely designed to enhance your practice and help ground you during some of the balance poses.
On their creative process:
All of our inspiration comes from places we both have been. We are both avid travelers and love learning about different cultures. We are especially inspired by textiles and prints from the countries we are visiting. Michaela is originally from the Czech Republic and I was born in raised in Los Angeles which is also a cultural melting pot. I’m sure in some way our style and creative direction is influenced by our upbringing.
On their inspiration for the prints:
Our very first collection was inspired by Navajo prints and Native American art and culture. At the time we both had just returned from a road trip to Zion and Sedona and were really wanting to create a collection that represented Native American art and culture. We both feel yoga is such a personal and beautiful practice with oneself and bringing in a print from a place that brought us both peace and clarity only made sense.
On their history and direction:
We’ve been in business just a little under 2 years now and have been lucky enough to find acceptance from the yoga community as well as the fashion community. It was so overwhelming for us to see how accepting and helpful the yoga community was with us when we first started. It’s like there was a thirst for a product like ours in the hearts of all yogis. That love and acceptance has kept us moving forward and inspired us to expand to fashion and lifestyle which is what we both know well in our previous careers. The future of LVBY is bright, with hard work and a wonderful team of people who are just as passionate about our products as we are, the possibilities are endless. At the moment we are focused on expanding our distribution channels internationally as well as domestically. We want to be a household name for yogis throughout the world.
In summary, I want to thank La Vie Boheme for creating ways of inspiring more people to practice yoga and to continue seeking their inner truth. I believe that our mat is integral to our yoga journey. We bring everything “we are” to it and pour out sweat and what needs to be released on it.
It is our brief respite from the world, a safe space to come to ground ourselves and hide, if only for a moment, in the temple within ourselves. As such, our yoga mats are incredibly important for our practice and we should look forward to convening with them on our journey. This space, our mats, is an opportunity to express our personality.
